Calling all souls!
Hi Friends! I am so excited to share my Day of the Dead party with all of you today. This bright and vibrant backyard party is too fun to miss! It’s perfect for tweens and teens—and full of activities, a DIY craft, and a full pack of FREE party printables. I created this party in partnership with Oriental Trading and Fun365.
When I first started planning and envisioning this Day of the Dead party, I knew I wanted it to be full of florals, bright colors and skeletons painted in the traditional Dia de los Muertos style. Day of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday that celebrates family and friends coming together to honor those who have died. It is a beautiful celebration of remembrance for lives passed. I absolutely love this holiday because it really celebrates life and memories, not death.
Day of the Dead Face Painting
A big part of all Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Mexico involves face painting. People paint their faces to look like skulls as a way to honor a deceased loved one or as an expression of themselves. For our Day of the Dead Tween Party I knew I wanted to incorporate this type of face painting and since this party is for tweens and teens, I thought it would be a fun party activity! My 13-year-old niece and her friends absolutely love trying different makeup tutorials and application techniques, so this was the perfect activity for them.

Painted Skeleton Craft Tutorial
An iconic and traditional element of Dia de los Muertos is painting skulls using bright colors and designs. For our Day of the Dead Tween Party I knew I wanted to incorporate this aesthetic by painting the faces of two life size skeletons as well as a French Bulldog skeleton. To further bring these skeletons to life, or the after-life, I dressed them in fun themed clothing.
