Last week we celebrated Sawyer’s 10th birthday with an epic backyard laser tag birthday party! From the laser tag themed foods to the decorations, and of course “The Armory,” Sawyer and his buddies had so much fun! This laser tag birthday party was such a HIT (no pun intended)! Instead of hosting the party at a laser tag gaming center, Sawyer really wanted the party to be in our backyard. Also, since laser tag is definitely more fun in the dark, we decided to have the party on a Friday night in the evening. The weather cooperated and it ended up being a great summer night, perfect for a 10th birthday laser tag battle!

Game On!

When each party guest arrived, they received a “Special Agent” name badge and lanyard. The lanyards were either yellow or blue. The colors helped the kids to quickly divide into teams (Team Yellow or Team Blue). Then, as the party went on, we were able to easily switch teams by just swapping lanyards.

Fuel up

The party began with some drills, stretches and warm-ups to get ready for “battle.” Then, everyone had to fuel up with some cupcakes, popcorn, cotton candy, popsicles, snacks and candy. To add a little fun to the cupcakes I added some cut rainbow Twizzlers to give the illusion of laser beams. (Quick tip: add a toothpick in the middle hole of each Twizzler to keep in upright and in place. Just be sure to let your guests know that they will need to remove the toothpicks before eating.) Then, I added a cupcake topper in the center of each cupcake too.

The Armory

After fueling up, it was GAME ON! Time for the main event…an epic laser tag battle! We hid all of the Laser X laser guns on two peg boards in our shed. No one had any idea where they were so, we sent all of the kids on a mini scavenger hunt—with a few trivia questions tossed in—on a quest to unlock “The Armory”! They really loved this added little excitement and got SO into it! You can see a video of all the fun here!

Game Over!

When the party was over, we sent all of Sawyer’s buddies home with a bunch of treats and laser inspired goodies. They loved the lightsabers and light-up alien balloons! See them in action at the end of this video.
