Very Hungry Caterpillar First Birthday

It’s hard to believe a year has already passed and my little Sawyer is one! I really feel that a first birthday is such a huge milestone. There are so many “firsts” in the months leading up to a first birthday…first smile, first giggle, first wave, first tooth, first steps (the day before his birthday)…and the list goes on. It amazes me every time I look at Sawyer how independent he has become in just one year. He truly is the light of my life.

I wanted the theme of the party to be centered around Sawyer’s favorite book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. My friend, Margo, did such a fantastic job capturing all of the special moments of his party. (I can’t thank you enough, Margo!!)

Here are some of the details from Sawyer’s big day:

To add to the fun of the theme, we ate all of the same foods that the caterpillar ate in the book!

Sue at House of Cakes created the most amazing birthday cake for Sawyer. I loved all of the details that she added from the book. As for the taste, it truly was as delicious as it looked!

All throughout Sawyer’s first year I have been taking monthly photos of him sitting on the same chair in his nursery. I have so loved watching him grow and change, sitting, playing and eventually squirming on the chair as I’ve tried to capture him each month. Months 10 and 11 were definitely the toughest as he was crawling, standing and ready to move! We created a long caterpillar to showcase each monthly photo. This was one of my favorite details of the party.

Sawyer had a wonderful birthday celebration. He was surrounded by so much love. We are so blessed to have the most amazing family and friends in our lives.
