Painting With My Peeps: Egg Coloring Easter Party

Hi Friends! I am so excited to share our Painting With My Peeps egg coloring Easter party with you all today! This party was such a blast! It was an art bonanza! A morning filled with friends, paint splatters, and Peeps. We painted eggs and cookies, and enjoyed some colorful (and delicious) treats with our favorite peeps.

PAINTING WITH MY PEEPS: THE THEME

As I was envisioning this party, I wanted it to be a completely different spin on a traditional Easter party of soft pastel colors and delicate accents. I wanted this party to be bright, bold, funky and artsy! I’ve always loved the look of Peeps…they are graphic and fun and a true icon of Easter. I knew they would be perfect for the style and look that I was going for. I first created the backdrop for the party by creating a Peeps stencil. (You can download the PDF stencil, along with all of the other free printables, in the printable library, under the ‘Easter’ category.) Then, I picked up some poster board in blue, pink, and yellow and traced the peeps. To add to the funky, painterly look, I whipped out my paint brushes and painted thick black outlines around the edges of the Peeps. Then I also painted some eggs and a paint brush too! Next, I added a bold black and white striped tablecloth and moved on to thinking about some fun, Peeps-inspired artsy foods and party activities.

PAINTING WITH MY PEEPS: PAINTING COOKIES

Our first activity at the Painting With My Peeps party was painting Easter egg sugar cookies with white royal icing. I recently found this Wilton Cake Paint at my local Michael’s Craft store and I was really excited that it worked perfectly with this party theme! The little artists loved painting their egg cookies! They couldn’t believe the paint was edible! Make sure you purchase the decorating brushes too. They worked so well and they are food safe for decorating (and of course, nibbling) your creation.

PAINTING WITH MY PEEPS: THE FOOD

As the painted cookies were drying, we all enjoyed some treats. The foods at our Painting With My Peeps party were a Peeps cake, candy dipped oreo “paint” served on an artist’s palette, Peeps cookies and Peeps cupcakes. It think the Peeps cake may have been the biggest hit and it was so easy to assemble. I purchased a store bought cake with white frosting only and then just added gumballs at the base, Peeps around the sides, and candies on the very top. Then, I took two new (never before used) paintbrushes and washed them really well in soapy water and stuck them through two sheets of candy buttons. I then poked both brushes into the top of the cake and voila…our Painting With My Peeps cake was complete!

Our last activity at the party was painting eggs. I found these unfinished plastic eggs at Target that worked so perfectly. They were so easy for the kids to paint and they dried really quickly. Our little artists really enjoyed them!

All of our favorite peeps, had to leave with a sweet little favor. I designed these tags to be easily cut out and attached to any bag or carton of Peeps. I think they would make a great classroom treat or little Easter gift too! Grab the design in the printable library!
