Hi Friends! It is the official start to our back to school season over here! Sawyer will be starting kindergarten at our neighborhood elementary school and Easton will be in preschool for the very first time ever. To get even more excited for these new beginnings (and distract from any nervousness and anxiety, mostly from me—not them…haha) we decided to have a little back to school party and, in turn, start a new family tradition. It’s undeniable that my little guys are growing up (cue the mama tears!). So recently, I’ve been trying to think of unique yet simple ways of capturing little “snapshots” of them now and in the years to come. After thinking about it for a little while, I came up with our School Memory Book idea…and a new family tradition was born!
During our little family back to school celebration, both Sawyer and Easton completed their “First Day of School Interview” and also drew self-portraits of themselves on the first day of school. They had so much fun answering the questions and working on their drawings! At the start of every school year from now on we are going to have a family celebration and the boys can add an updated interview and drawing to their binders. I think it will be so fun to look back at the answers to their interview questions over the years and see how their interests, likes and dislikes have changed. Also, I already treasure their drawings and I know they will become even more precious in the years to come. Since the memory book is a simple 3 ring binder it will be easy to update over the years. Also, I can easily add an additional “This is me on the first day of school” page and include their first day of school photos too. I purposely designed these memory book pages to match the first day of school printable signs that I shared last month. After I take their photos on the first day, I can also save the sign, itself, as a keepsake in the binder too.
Back to School Party: Make your own School Memory Book
If you would like to make your own School Memory Book, all of the free printables are in the Printable Library. You will also need a 3 ring binder.
- First, download the School Memory Book free printables (located in the printable library). There are 5 total pages in the PDF. The first page is the cover of the School Memory Book. Pages 2 and 3 are the first and last day of school interviews. Pages 4 and 5 are the first and last day of school drawing/photo pages.
- You will need to download the free font Antonio to edit the graduating year on the cover. You can download the font (for free) here.
- The printable is a PDF file that contains editable fields (for the name, class year, interview questions, and also for the name and date section on the pencil). You will need Adobe Reader to personalize the printable. If you don’t have Adobe Reader you can download it for free here.
- Open the PDF in Adobe Reader. Click where it currently says “Sawyer’s,” at the top of the cover page, and type the name you would like to include.
- Then, click where it currently says “2031” (on the apple), and type the graduating year you would like to include. Continue personalizing the other pages of the PDF…interview questions and name and date on the pencils if you would like. If your child is older, they can easily hand write in their responses to the interview questions. I made these pages with editable fields for the responses in thinking about younger children that would have a difficult time writing in their own responses. To answer the interview questions just click to the right of the question and type your child’s response.
- Lastly, when you have finished personalizing your PDF, click “save” and print.
Back to School Party: C is for Cookie!
Now, what’s a back to school party without some treats! After working on the School Memory Books, we all enjoyed some cookies and milk! These adorable cookies were made by Give Mia Cookie. They were so delicious and absolutely darling. The boys loved them!
As you can see the sprinkles on the rim of the milk bottles were a BIG hit too!
And a party just isn’t a party without blowing bubbles in your milk until they overflow! Am I right?!
Yes, my sweet boys, both of you will do amazing things. I just know it. Work hard. Be kind. And always remember that your mama loves you with every ounce of her being. Have a wonderful school year! Let the new adventures begin!

So beautiful! I love it all! Where did you get the back to school sign for the milk bottles? How did you get the sprinkles to stick to the rim of the bottle?

The back to school bottle labels (along with all of the other printables from this party) are available for free in the printable library. Just subscribe with your name and email at the bottom of the post and then you will receive a welcome email with the password to log into the library.
To add the sprinkles to the bottles, just spread white frosting around the rim and then roll in sprinkles. So fun!
