Hi Friends! Cue the confetti! It’s a New Years Countdown Party! This party is so much fun—full of bright colors and a ton of activities to keep your family and friends busy until the ball drops! I think a lot of times New Years Eve gets a little overlooked because everyone is so exhausted from the hustle bustle of the holiday season. Well, hosting a memorable and fun New Years celebration doesn’t have to be hard. All of the materials I’m using for this party are from Oriental Trading and the ideas are very do-able. I also designed a bunch of coordinating printables that you can download from the free printable library. Trust me, you will be able to pull this party together in no time!
I first started decorating for this party by creating a giant confetti popper as the backdrop, and main focal point, of the celebration. To make the popper I rolled a piece of poster board into a cone shape and taped the back. After I hung in on the wall, I added confetti fringe streamers and honeycomb balls. Then I added the countdown numbers (printable in the library) and clear favor boxes filled with metallic shred next to each number. Inside each box I curled up a printable strip with an activity that we will be doing at the party. Lastly, I added some disco ball dessert plates to the wall along with some black cut paper confetti to complete the look.
I love the idea of doing a countdown to the New Year with these 10 activities. These activities are completely self-paced and do not have to be done at any specific time. They can easily be incorporated into your party structure. If you are doing more of a Noon Years Eve celebration, they could work for that too!
Starting with number 10, count down to the new year by opening up a numbered box with an activity as the party goes on. Each number will be a new little surprise activity!
10/ Re-enact a funny memory from the year
9/ Play a favorite board game
8/ Make 3 Resolutions for the New Year
7/ Grab a Prop and Head to the Photo Booth
This little photo booth area took only minutes to assemble. I cut a silver metallic fringe table skirt in half and taped both pieces on to the wall. Then, I added a few honeycomb balls to the top as well as my printable signs. Lastly, I set out a bunch of fun photo booth props and colorful hats. Done! So easy!
6/ Blow Champagne Bubbles
5/ Glow Crazy! Have a Glow Dance Party
Ok, the glow dance party was definitely a highlight (no pun intended)! My boys had a blast with the glow-in-the-dark 2020 glasses, light-up wands and glow sticks. Crank up some music and glow crazy!
4/ Have an Almost-Midnight Snack
After all that dancing it’s time for an almost-midnight snack. I loved the table decor from this party. I layered silver chargers under the “Hello New Year” plates. Then I added the coordinating dessert plates, cocktail napkins and luncheon napkins. Of course, I needed to add some mirror balls too—the drink stirs worked perfectly! Lastly, I just placed the “Good Vibes” platter in the center of the table.
3/ “Bests” From Last Year
While everyone is finishing their almost-midnight snacks would be the perfect time to have your family and friends fill out their “Bests” from the year. This printable is available for free in the printable library too. I love the idea of reflecting back on the past year and remembering all of the very best moments! It’s such a positive way to enter into the new year!
2/ Make Some Noise!
We can’t enter into the new year without making some noise! This pack of noisemakers worked so well. It’s a great assortment with lots of variety. I just piled all of the noisemakers into a large galvanized box and added my “Make Some Noise” printable. I just brought it out when we got to #2 in our countdown and it was an instant activity.
1/ Cheers to the New Year!
#1 in our countdown has to be a cheers to the new year! Happy New Year!
