Hi Friends! If you are looking for a cute Pokemon themed DIY for gift giving or to use as a party game these “poke-a-ball” Pokemon punch boxes are such a great idea! They are very easy to assemble and really inexpensive too. Also, you can arrange them around the party and they double as fun party decorations! At Sawyer’s recent Pokemon Birthday Party, I surprised him by putting his gifts in these punch boxes. He totally loved them! He was so excited and thought they were really fun. (Check out the video below to see him in action!) I think they could also easily be incorporated into a fun party game—Pokemon trivia, scavenger hunt, relay races, the possibilities are endless when you “gotta catch ’em all!”
These Pokemon Punch Boxes is very easy to assemble. To get started you will need, black foam board, red & white tissue paper, black & white paper, hot glue gun and glue sticks, and the prizes or treats you’d like to include inside the box.
Step 1:
Start by cutting the black foam boards into 10 inch X 10 inch squares. The foam board I used was 20×30 inches so I was able to cut each board into 6 exact squares. You will need 6 squares for each box, so each board made one complete punch box.
Step 2:
Next, trace a large circle on one of the 6 boards. I used a large bowl as a guide to make the circle. Then, using an xacto knife, carefully cut out the circle. Set this panel aside until Step 4.
Step 3:
It’s time to hot glue the remaining 5 squares together to make the box. Apply a line of hot glue at each seam, where the squares come together, until you have formed a box with only the top remaining open.
Step 4:
To create the look of a Poke Ball, cut out pieces of red and white tissue paper to cover the circle (as shown in the photo above). Glue the tissue in place on the back of the foam board. Then, cut out a thin black strip of paper and glue it in the center of the circle, covering where the red and white tissue papers meet. Lastly, add a circle, made of black and white paper, in the very center of the Poke Ball.
Step 5:
Now fill the box with gifts or prizes. Then apply hot glue to the top edges of the box and place the Poke Ball lid in place. Now your Pokemon Punch Boxes are complete! Repeat the steps to make as many boxes as you’d like. These boxes will make such a fun and exciting addition to your party!
