Hi Friends! I’m excited to share our recent Lemonade Stand for a Cause project with you all today! A few weeks ago, my son Sawyer told me he wanted to have a lemonade stand to raise money for a charity. I was absolutely thrilled because at the age of 5-years-old it’s not that uncommon for him to think about himself first, before others (as I’m sure is the case with a lot of other kids his age). So, needless to say, we got to work right away!
Sawyer picked the wonderful organization, The Birthday Party Project, to donate all of the proceeds from his lemonade stand. The Birthday Party Project is a charity that brings joy to homeless children through the magic of birthdays. If you haven’t heard of them, please check them out. They do incredible work!
My husband, Scott, had originally made the stand, itself, for my younger son, Easton’s, first birthday party Farmers Market and then we used it again as a ticket booth for his Party Animal Zoo 2nd birthday. It is made from two apple crates nailed together for the base, and then two pieces of wood on the sides and the sign on the top.
I had so much fun designing all of the graphics for the stand. They are so fresh and cheery…there is just something about bright yellow…it’s such a happy color! All of the graphics are available as free printables by filling out the form at the bottom of this post.
Sawyer asked his grandma, Cece, to make one of our family-favorite cookies. These Amazing Lemonhead® Cookies are just that, amazing! I’m including the recipe at the bottom of the post too. They are just too delicious not to share!
AMAZING LEMONHEAD® COOKIE RECIPE
Serves: 24 sandwich cookies
Calories: 169 cal.
Fat: 7 g.
- 1 package (17.5 ounce) of Sugar Cookie Mix
- ¼ cup crushed Lemonhead®
- ⅔ cup Lemon Curd
- ⅔ cup frozen Cool Whip®, thawed
- 2 tablespoons Powdered Sugar
- Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil; set aside. Prepare cookie mix according to package directions. Stir in crushed Lemonheads®. Cover and chill dough about 1 hour.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 minutes or until edges are firm and cookies are light brown on bottom. Cool on baking sheet for 1 minute. Transfer to a wire rack; let cool.
- For filling, in small bowl stir together lemon curd and Cool Whip®; set aside. To assemble cookies, place a rounded teaspoon of filling on the bottom side of a cookie; top with another cookie top-side-up. Repeat with remaining cookies and filling. Sprinkle tops of cookies with powdered sugar. Refrigerate filled cookies for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month. Recipe adapted from Best-Loved Holiday Recipes cookbook
This was such a fun summertime activity that raised a lot of money for a wonderful organization. The kids had a blast and it was a definite “proud mama moment” for me to see my oldest son get so excited about helping bring joy to other children on their birthdays.
